The Voice - Local Radio for North Devon - Broadcasting from Barnstaple on DAB Digital Radio and on 106.1 & 107.8 FM

Roy Grimes

I have had an interest in radio and music since my early teens. Back in the 1970’s I used to listen to radio Luxemburg on Medium Wave (1439kHz). Those were the days, when the sound of radio came complete with whistles, pops hisses and whines!

Later in life I have presented for Tarka hospital radio as well as, briefly, for Anka hospital radio in Warwickshire. In the late 1990’s I had my first taste of presenting on FM radio, when I presented ‘stand-in’ shows at Lantern FM, which really gave me the bug!

I have been involved with what would develop in to The Voice right from its conception when I began producing and presenting shows for the internet based Network 1 and also Network North Devon, which began following the announcement of the closure of local radio in North Devon. It is very rewarding to be involved with the re-birth of North Devon’s local radio service, on DAB and hopefully soon on FM too.

My taste in music is varied, even eclectic! Personally I enjoy listening to all genres of music from 1950's through to the latest sounds. I believe that radio is at its best when it is interactive, so check out my show on Thursdays between 6-10pm and whilst listening, take the plunge and get in touch. Look forward to hearing from you.
